AIM
This course introduces
students to Irish short fiction from a
theoretical perspective. The course aims at developing the students’
understanding of representative works of Irish short fiction, as well as
at deepening their analytic skills through the study of literary theory.
CONTENT
The literary works are studied
from a variety of theoretical perspectives, such as structuralism,
poststructuralism, postcolonialism and feminism. Besides introducing
students to theoretical texts, they will also study a number of critical
articles dealing directly with the Irish short fiction studied on the
course.
FORMAT
The course consists of
obligatory seminars, in which students are expected to participate
actively. In order to facilitate the response and development of the
students, the different theories will be applied to the works studied
through short hand-in assignments. All teaching is conducted in English.
Assessment
The students are assessed
through seminar participation as well as written hand-in assignments and
an oral presentation.

The grades used are Pass with
Distinction (ECTS A and B), Pass (ECTS C, D, and E), and Fail (ECTS
FX/F).
